Horizon 2020

The Horizon 2020 Working Group tackles issues where the critical mass and collective expertise that Science Europe’s membership represents in discussions on Horizon 2020 can be an asset. The topics covered by the Horizon 2020 Working Group include the implementation of Horizon 2020, related EU activities, discussions in the European institutional context, and other relevant European research policy issues.

The Working Group closely follows the implementation of Horizon 2020 and in particular horizontal issues such as the evaluation of multidisciplinary projects, the simplification of rules in Horizon 2020, and the management of proposal submissions and projects in Horizon 2020.

Even once a new Framework Programme has been adopted, there can be space for improvements and adjustments, and the need to monitor developments in the interest of research organisations and scientific communities. Some essential aspects of Horizon 2020 are left for the European Commission to define outside the legislative process; these aspects often involve consultations and informal discussions in which the Horizon 2020 Working Group will engage.

The Horizon 2020 Working Group is composed of experts from Science Europe Member Organisations who are responsible for liaison with the European Institutions. It meets whenever a topic of potential shared interest has been identified by the members or by the Chairman. Topics are explored through sharing information, experience and best practices, and, whenever appropriate, with the contribution of invited experts.
