Science Europe has responded to the European Commission’s Call for Evidence on the Action Plan for Women in Research, Innovation and Start-ups, setting out concrete proposals to strengthen equality, diversity, and inclusion across Europe’s research and innovation systems.

Science Europe has responded to the European Commission Call-for-Evidence on a Fair Labour Mobility Package, emphasising that equitable and inclusive career and mobility opportunities for research professionals are central to the effectiveness, attractiveness, and quality of the European Research Area. The response builds on Science Europe’s long-standing commitment to improving research careers and mobility, as reflected in its previous policy positions and activities on careers and working conditions in research.

This report summarises the discussions and key conclusions of the second webinar in the NRFU–Science Europe Webinar Series 'Building Capacity in the Ukrainian Research and Innovation Ecosystem,' which explored monitoring tools for R&D projects.

Science Europe has responded to the European Commission’s public consultation on the proposed European Research Area (ERA) Act, setting out the collective views of its Member Organisations on how the legislation can effectively strengthen framework conditions for research and innovation, while safeguarding academic freedom, institutional autonomy, and the diversity of national research systems.

This statement presents the overall conclusions from the 2025 High Level Workshop, co-organised by the Research Council of Norway (RCN), UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), and Science Europe on 18–20 November in Oslo, Norway. 

It highlights the shared commitment to strengthening a resilient, collaborative, and secure European R&I ecosystem, and outlines the key themes that emerged from the discussions.

This report provides six key policy messages as the result from a series of workshops, organised between January and June 2025 by the Task Force on Research Security. The workshops dealt with balancing openness, security, and academic freedom with policies and measures to protect national and economic security.

The Act should maintain Horizon Europe’s autonomy for R&I-focused projects, foster talent circulation, strengthen research-industry collaboration, and enhance access to Research and Technology Infrastructures.

Science Europe made excellent progress on its research policy priorities in 2024, delivering key outputs in various areas, including science communication, research assessment, open science, the sustainability of research, international collaboration, and equality, diversity, and inclusion.

This report summarises the outcomes of the 28 February webinar 'Women in Science: Celebrating Inclusion and Shaping the Future of Research'. It highlights possible avenues for research funding and research performing organisations to improve working environments by addressing equality, diversity, and inclusion.

In May, Science Europe responded to a Call for Evidence by the European Commission on a European Strategy on Research and Technology Infrastructures. The response outlines a number of considerations to be taken towards these infrastructures, which are of fundamental and strategic importance to the ERA.

On International Women's Day, Science Europe reaffirms its commitment to advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in the European research ecosystem as an essential part of research quality. We aim to promote a research ecosystem where all scholars can realise their potential regardless of gender, sexual orientation, religion, disabilities, ethnic origin, or social background.

This report presents a summary of the dialogue sessions and main conclusions of the 2024 High Level Workshop that took place in Budapest on 19 and 20 November. The event was organised by Science Europe in partnership with the Hungarian Research Network (HUN-REN) and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), under the auspices of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

This statement presents the key conclusions from the 2024 High Level Workshop on 'Strengthening European Cohesion and Competitiveness through Research and Innovation' and a set of priorities for achieving this.

Science Europe responds to the global consultation on the UNESCO Draft Principles on Open Science Monitoring. The principles are a step in the right direction, aligning with the priorities and practices of Science Europe's Member Organisations.

This report analyses the role of public research funding and performing organisations in Europe in the shifting landscape of open science and research assessment reform. The findings demonstrate how Science Europe's Member Organisations actively shape and contribute to these developments.

Science Europe and RCN organised an event on reciprocity in international research collaboration to explore the critical importance of academic freedom, equitable access to scientific information and infrastructures. The conclusions highlight the need for a human-centered approach and the value of diverse knowledge systems.

Science Europe considers the 2021–2024 period a major step forward for the European Research Area due to its more inclusive and successful governance. There are still several areas that need improvement, however, including the ERA's contribution to key EU policy areas.

This document highlights research software as an emerging element of open science policies and practices and provides recommendations for research funding and research performing organisations on developing and aligning related policies.

2023 proved to be another landmark year for Science Europe: building on the achievements of the previous year and setting the direction for new approaches in vital areas of research policy.

This Multi-annual Action Plan proposes a series of framework actions to guide the implementation of the Science Europe Strategy Plan 2021–2026 in line with the association's updated vision, mission, values, and strategic priorities. The Action Plan was updated in June 2024.

In the run up to the European Parliament Elections on 6-9 June 2024, Science Europe has launched our 'Vote for Science' Campaign advocating for political support for science research in the EU legislative agenda of the next 5 years. In the interests of securing this support, Science Europe encourages candidates for the European Parliament to consider and commit to 5 pledges to safeguard the future of European research and innovation.

In the run up to the European Parliament Elections on 6-9 June 2024, Science Europe has launched our 'Vote for Science' Campaign advocating for political support for science research in the EU legislative agenda of the next 5 years. As part of our campaign, we've created a factsheet offering a look at the state of science research in Europe, to help voters in understanding how we are doing in supporting science across the areas of our 5 Pledges for Candidates.

This initial position by Science Europe on ‘Dual-Use’ Research, was submitted on 30 April as a response to the European Commission Consultation on the White Paper on ‘Options for enhancing support for research and development involving technologies with dual-use potential’, following a preliminary discussion with our Governing Board and prior to a broader discussion with our Member Organisations in the context of our upcoming General Assembly Meeting.
