Covid-19 Emergency Call for Proposals
The aim of this Research Council of Norway (RCN) call is to support research that will enable us to understand and contain the new COVID-19, as well as to improve efficient patient management and public health (national and international) preparedness and response to the current and analogous outbreaks that may come in the future.

Special call for applications for research into COVID-19
The Academy of Finland (AKA) call is aimed at research projects in all fields of research that deal with the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the COVID-19 epidemic caused by it, the societal impacts of the epidemic and the prevention and/or mitigation of its negative consequences.
Budget: €8,450,000
Eligibility: The funding will support the redirecting of relevant research or the strengthening of research under the theme, that has already been funded by AKA.

Special initiative on research for virus research
This Swedish Research Council (VR) call addresses knowledge gaps such as research on viruses that constitute pandemic threats, and those that cause common infections. For most viruses we are also lacking antiviral drugs or vaccines capable of reducing the viral burden.
Budget: 100,000,000 Kr over five years
Eligibility: Not yet defined. Typically, recipients should be attached to a legal entity approved by the Swedish Research Council as a recipient of research funding (normally a university). International collaboration is allowed.

Competitive call for research and innovation proposals under preparation by the Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT) and the Agency for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation.
Budget: € 1,500,000
Eligibility: Higher education institutions and their institutes, State Laboratories and other public research institutions, Scientific societies or non-profit scientific associations, public or private non-profit institutions, who may apply individually or in partnership, may be recipients, being mandatory the participation of services and healthcare providers entities. Business entities can participate, provided the partnership with research institutions.
AI 4 COVID-19
This Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) call is for projects that promote the presentation of R&D projects in the field of Data Science that may contribute to improving the response of the Public Administration bodies to the impact of COVID-19 and future pandemics, in line with the provisions of the National Plan from the General Health Directorate (DGS).
Budget: € 3,000,000
Eligibility: Non-business entities in the R&I system, namely: Higher education institutions, their institutes and R&D units; State or international laboratories based in Portugal; Private non-profit institutions mainly dedicated to R&D activities; Other public and private, non-profit institutions that develop or participate in R&D activities. DOCTORATES 4 COVID-19
This Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) call aims to support the development of knowledge to create the skills needed to respond to the pandemic of the new corona virus SARS-CoV-2 and the COVID-19 disease, and to future pandemics, that may translate into efficient prevention measures, better healthcare and an effective support to citizens.
Availability: 50 PhD studentships
Eligibility: Researchers of any nationality or stateless individuals may apply. Research activities may be carried out in any environment of production and dissemination of knowledge, national or international. The work plan may be entirely or partially carried out in a national institution (studentship in Portugal or both in Portugal and abroad studentship, respectively).
Crédits Urgents de Recherche (CUR)
This Fund for Scientific Research (F.R.S.-FNRS) call allows eligible scientists to request up to € 60,000 in order to cover the costs incurred by an already running project or a project that is about to start. The costs can be covered from April 1 to August 31.

ACTIVE CALL
This UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) call is intended for research addressing and mitigating health, social, economic, cultural and environmental impacts of the outbreak. Themes: new research or innovation that will deliver a significant contribution to the understanding of and response to the pandemic plus impacts. Support the manufacture and/or wide scale adoption.
Budget: No budget currently set. UKRI is interested in funding research of any scale that can demonstrate it will deliver impact in the project length.

Covid-19 Rapid Response Calls
UKRI with the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) via the National Institute for Health Research jointly launched two rapid-response research calls to tackle COVID-19: Active intervention development and Diagnosing and understanding COVID-19.
Budget: £ 20,000,000 across two calls.

Business-led innovation in response to global disruption
Under this UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) call, UK-registered businesses can apply for between £25,000 and £50,000 to respond to new and urgent needs in UK and global communities during and following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Special Call on Coronaviruses
This Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) special call funds projects starting as of June in any discipline on coronaviruses tackling the current crisis or preparing for future epidemics. It takes into account the agenda of the WHO and the priorities of the Federal Office of Public Health.

Flash Call COVID-19
This call from the French National Research Agency (ANR) is a multidisciplinary call for proposals with an accelerated process of evaluation and selection on COVID-19 that aims to rapidly support the scientific communities. It is targeted on priorities identified by the WHO, including epidemiology, physiopathology, prevention, ethics, and social science and humanity.
Budget: € 17,600,000
Eligibility: Applicants from universities, research performing organisations, and the private sector.
HRB/IRC Rapid Response Funding Call
This is a partnership between Health Research Board (HRB) and the Irish Research Council (IRC). This call is open to projects for:

COVID-19 Genomics UK Consortium
Supported by the Government, NHS, Public Health England, UKRI, and Wellcome, this will enable clinicians and public health teams to rapidly investigate clusters of cases in hospitals, care homes and the community, to understand how the virus is spread and implement appropriate infection control measures.
Call for Multidisciplinary Research into Epidemics and Pandemics in Response to the Outbreak of SARS-CoV-2
This call by the German Research Foundation (DFG) is a multidisciplinary funding initiative for projects addressing the prevention, early detection, containment and investigation of the causes, impacts and management of epidemics and pandemics, taking the example of SARS-CoV-2 and other microorganisms and viruses that are pathogenic to humans.

Urgent grants 2020 to secure access to data or research materials
The Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Developmat (Formas) has opened this call in response to the current situation on COVID-19. The focus of the call is within Formas' areas of responsibility: environment, agricultural sciences and spatial planning.

Call for proposals to expand the research programme funding related to the COVID-19 pandemic
This Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS) call aims to provide additional funding for research activities related to the COVID-19 pandemic within the instrument of research programmes (long term funding of research activities). Research topics are to be focused on the new corona virus SARS-CoV-2 and the COVID-19 disease (treatment methods, protection, diagnostics), as well as on the critical analysis of the population protection system in Slovenia (procedures, equipment) and comparative analysis with other countries for a better response to any future pandemics and epidemics.
The call is expected to be launched in mid-May 2020 and will enable a temporary increase in funding of the selected research programmes by the end of 2021.
Budget: Exact amount to be defined.
Eligibility: Slovenian research organisations that have already been involved in the ARRS instrument of research programmes and have conducted or plan to conduct research related to the call topics.

Large-scale interdisciplinary project covering COVID-19 pandemic and related themes
The call for large-scale interdisciplinary project aims to provide funding for research activities related to the COVID-19 pandemic issues within the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS) research projects instrument. The call allows scientists to request up to €500.000 per year in order to cover the costs of salaries of the researchers, material costs and depreciation of research infrastructure. The funding is to start in September 2020 (as foreseen) for a three-year period.
Budget: €500.000 annually
Eligibility: Standard ARRS eligibility requirements, inter-institutional application (at least three participating research organisations) and interdisciplinary projects covering several scientific disciplines.

Urgent Funding for Research into Humanitarian Crises Like Epidemics and Pandemics
The Austrian Science Fund (FWF) is calling for scientists in the country to submit project proposals for multidisciplinary research in COVID-19, which will be funded within its existing programmes, but assessed in a new fast track procedure. The fast track is open to proposals that deal with the prevention, early detection, containment, causes and effects of epidemics and pandemics such as COVID-19. This includes research focussed on the technical, ecological, economic, political, legal, medical, cultural, psychological, or ethical implications.
Eligibility: Qualified principal investigators of all fields – both established researchers and those at the beginning of their career – who work or want to work at Austrian research institutions or in the case of an application in the Schrödinger Programme at a research institution abroad.
International collaboration: This call is open to projects involving researchers based in Luxembourg, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovenia, Poland and the Provincial Administration of South Tyrol, in accordance with the lead agency agreements between FWF and FNR, SNSF, GACR, DFG, ARRS, and NCN.
Corona: Fast-track data
The corona crisis poses many new questions for society. There is an urgent need for research across the entire spectrum of disciplines, ranging from medical and healthcare research to research in the humanities, behavioural sciences, physical and natural sciences, and engineering. Research that is essential to build a knowledge base for political and general decision-making. The resulting decisions will be crucial for society, both in the short term – to combat the corona crisis – and in the long term – to navigate the post-corona era.
The 'Corona: fast-track data' call for proposals focuses on research to be conducted now, i.e. at the height of the corona crisis, and specifically research into issues, other than medical and healthcare issues, that arise in society during the crisis.
This call is now closed due to the budget having been allocated.
Budget: €1,500,000
Eligibility: Full, associate and assistant professors and other researchers with a comparable appointment can submit an application provided that they are employed (i.e. hold a salaried position) for at least the duration of the research for which funding is requested, at one of the following organisations: universities established in the Kingdom of the Netherlands; university medical centres; NWO and KNAW institutes; the Netherlands Cancer Institute; the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen; the DUBBLE Beamline at the ESRF in Grenoble; Naturalis Biodiversity Center; Advanced Research Centre for NanoLithography (ARCNL); Princess Máxima Center. Medical and healthcare research projects are excluded from participation.
Special call for COVID-19 research projects
The Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) seeks to generate social impact in the short term for dealing with the current COVID-19 crisis. The objective of this call is to help solve urgent scientific issues surrounding the approach. It is complementary to the FWO call for junior and senior research projects. It is focused exclusively on research that requires immediate funding because it is carried out within the context of the current pandemic and can therefore not be accommodated under any of the open calls for fundamental research projects. Its short time span and succinct form reflects the urgent and temporary character of this research.
Budget: €2,500,000
Eligibility: Proposals must be made by a consortium (i.e. two or more eligible institutions) to increase their likelihood of impact. See FWO website for more eligibility details.

COVID-19 Rapid Response Rolling Call
This call by UK Research and Innovation and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) seeks to fund research looking into the association between ethnicity and COVID-19 incidence and adverse health outcomes. Research is needed to further understanding of potential differences in risk for ethnic groups, which groups are at greatest risk of a range of adverse outcomes, and, based on that understanding, what can be done about this to reduce morbidity and mortality. This call is in addition, and designed to complement, existing work already being done by academic groups and Public Health England.

This Dutch Research Council (NWO) and ZonMw programme aims to contribute to controlling the consequences of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the short and long term, to generate new knowledge about prevention, treatment and recovery from this infectious disease, and to investigate the broader societal issues concerning this pandemic.
Focus Area: Predictive diagnostics and treatment
Research in this focus area concerns the (further) development of (predictive) diagnostics for individualised treatment and for the prevention of COVID-19-related symptoms in the early, acute and recovery phases. It concerns research that is urgently needed into new or existing therapies and their modes of action, and on obtaining insight into, amongst other things, the microbiome, immunity, predictive parameters and individualised treatment.

Collaboration between research groups, disciplines and relevant stakeholders is the starting point for obtaining these insights in an efficient manner and for realising an adequate preparation for a future pandemic.
