Science Europe Appoints New Governing Board at General Assembly in Oslo

Science Europe has elected a new Governing Board at the General Assembly in Oslo, held alongside the annual High-Level Workshop on the European Research Area. The new Board, comprising President Mari Sundli Tveit, two Vice-presidents, and nine additional members, will play a central role in shaping strategic direction, reinforcing collaboration, and advancing research policy across Europe.

Science Europe appointed its new Governing Board today during the General Assembly held in Oslo, organised in connection with the annual High-Level Workshop on the European Research Area (ERA). Representatives from Member Organisations gathered to review ongoing activities, discuss future priorities, and elect the leadership that will guide the association through its next mandate.

The Science Europe 2025-2027 Governing Board:

  • President: Mari Sundli Tveit (Research Council of Norway) 
  • Vice-president: Marcel Levi (Dutch Research Council ) 
  • Vice-president: Francisco Javier Moreno Fuentes (CSIC) 
  • Katja Becker (German Research Foundation) 
  • Katarina Bjelke (Swedish Research Council)  
  • Anna Di Ciaccio (National Institute for Nuclear Physics) 
  • Tjaša Dobnik (Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency) 
  • Christoff Gattringer (Austrian Science Fund) 
  • Krzysztof Jóźwiak (National Science Centre) 
  • Torsten Schwede (Swiss National Science Foundation) 
  • Christopher Smith (UK Research and Innovation) 

The newly appointed Governing Board will play a key role in shaping Science Europe’s strategic direction, strengthening cooperation among Member Organisations, and advancing evidence-informed research policy at the European level. Their leadership will be crucial as the association continues to contribute to a coherent, open, and impactful European Research Area. 

Science Europe expresses its sincere gratitude to the outgoing Governing Board members for their dedication, service, and valuable contributions over the past mandate. Their work has significantly supported key policy developments, enhanced international collaboration, and reinforced the association’s role within the European research landscape. 

The General Assembly also offered an opportunity to align on upcoming initiatives and prepare for the discussions taking place at the High Level Workshop, further strengthening the collective commitment of our Member Organisations. 

Science Europe looks forward to collaborating with the newly appointed Board and to continuing the strong collaboration built in recent years.
